ISOQAR Audit

Such Salinger Peters passed their ISO9001:2015 annual QMS audit successfully at the end of June. The audit was undertaken with a visit by an ISOQAR representative auditing both internally looking at adherence to policies and procedures, and externally with a site survey visit. This enabled us to achieve our re-accreditation.

CPD (Continuing Professional Development) Training

A number of CPD sessions have been held in the past month covering a variety of topics; Masonry Repair and Micro-Piling, Treating Mould, T-T Pumping Stations to name a few. All presented by highly knowledgeable staff and a lot was learnt.

Easter 2023

The SSP Office will be closed over the Easter Bank Holiday. Re-opening on Tuesday, 11th April.

Numatic – Planning granted

Numatic, Millfield Industrial Estate, Chard - Planning Permission granted for the redevelopment of the site with 20,611sqm of commercial floorspace, creation of new access and all associated works. SSP have a long term association with Numatic assisting them with drainage infrastructure across their Chard development and this new phase is the redevelopment of the old Oscar Mayer premises on Millfield Industrial Estate.

Work Placement 2023

Connor Foy joins SSP for a week to undertake a term time work experience placement from Bourne Academy. Connor has enjoyed being part of the team for the week and has been offered a summer placement during his school holidays. We will arrange all the necessary BCP work permits and look forward to welcoming Connor back in the summer.

Welcome to the New Year 2023

Welcome to Arfan Alsakka who has joined SSP as a graduate engineer and during his first month has obtained a 100% score on his CITB Heath, Safety and Environment Test for Managers and Professionals enabling him to obtain his CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) card. Congratulations Arfan!

Christmas 2022

Christmas festivities this year involved a visit to the M.A.R.V.O. Escape Room in Boscombe, followed by food at the 7 Bone Burger Co restaurant in Bournemouth – a good time had by all. An enjoyable, challenging experience and great to be out and about again after the last couple of years of lockdown.

The SSP office will be closed from 23rd December until 3rd January 2023.

Impermeable Area Surveys

Three weeks in Wales on Storm Overflow Assessment Framework for Welsh Water and Arup have been keeping SSP busy this month along with maintaining the high standards and level of service in other areas of the business.

Staff Update July 2022

Henry Allan joins as a summer placement during the University summer break. Henry has assisted on projects from day one and is already a great asset to the team, showing his willingness to learn and he has picked up engineering processes and tasks very quickly.

July seems to be the month for holidays with several staff members enjoying some time away (hopefully to relax!). Remaining staff are picking up projects and assisting in meeting project deadlines.

Working Hard

Staff illnesses have resulted in a drop in staffing levels this month, however those that remain in the office are working hard to cover any projects that need undertaking and SSP are maintaining the same level of delivery.

Jake Bareham departs SSP for a career change into teaching.

All staff have undertaken Health and Safety Training together with either new or refresher training in Confined Space Awareness. New staff also undertaken Asbestos Awareness training.

Liz Parkinson joined SSP in an office administration role.

Lime Wood Hotel – Planning granted

Lime Wood Hotel, Beaulieu Road, Lyndhurst - Planning Permission granted for the revised Pumping Station site in conjunction with the rising main through The Inclosure at Lyndhurst.

CASE STUDY 1

The project involved the design of a replacement structural steel deck jetty with runway beams allowing the boat crane hoist to lift boats in and out of the water.

The existing concrete runway structure was starting to fail in areas with visible signs of cracking.

Such Salinger Peters were commissioned to produce a structural design for a replacement steel framed jetty sat on steel circular piles.

CASE STUDY 2

During the winter of 2012 heavy rainfall destabilised a section of flood defence embankment along the River Brit in Bridport. Due to restricted access through privately owned land the Environment Agency opted to install a long term flood defence solution to avoid the need to return to the site every few years.

Such Salinger Peters were commissioned to produce a detailed design for a replacement flood wall. In order to replace the existing flood bank with a flood wall the topography of the bank was altered creating a much less steep bank. This would allow the Environment Agency easier access to the site to carry out maintenance.

CASE STUDY 3

This scheme was a community project for affordable housing on a brownfield site on the outskirts of Buckland Newton. http://www.lyddenmeadow.co.uk

Such Salinger Peters (SSP) worked with the contractor C.G. Fry and Son to gain consent for this farmstead style development and provided a biodiversity survey to support the planning application. SSP also detailed wildlife mitigation measures during works and recommended ecological enhancements to gain Code 4 Sustainable Homes certification for the scheme.

CASE STUDY 4

Such Salinger Peters were commissioned to undertake an ecological assessment to provide advice for a site in Poole.

The project required a site survey and provided a report with advice in line with guidance. A summary of details for the work follows;
