The management of Such Salinger Peters Ltd recognises that the day-to-day operations can impact both directly and indirectly on the environment. We aim to protect and improve the environment through good management and by adopting best practice wherever possible. We will work to integrate environmental considerations into our business decisions and adopt greener alternatives wherever possible, throughout our operations.

In order to discharge its responsibilities the management will:

- bring this Environmental Policy Statement to the attention of all stakeholders
- carry out regular audits of the environmental management system
- comply fully with all relevant legal requirements, codes of practice and regulations at International, National and Local levels
- eliminate risks to the environment, where possible, through selection and design of materials, buildings, facilities, equipment and processes
- ensure that emergency procedures are in place at all locations for dealing with environmental issues
- establish targets to measure the continuous improvement in our environmental performance
- identify and manage environmental risks and hazards
- improve the environmental efficiency of our transport and travel
- involve customers, partners, clients, suppliers and subcontractors in the implementation of our objectives
- minimise waste and increase recycling within the framework of our waste management procedures
- only engage contractors who are able to demonstrate due regard to environmental matters
- prevent pollution to land, air and water
- promote environmentally responsible purchasing
- provide adequate resources to control environmental risks arising from our work activities
- provide suitable training to enable employees to deal with their specific areas of environmental control
- reduce the use of water, energy and any other natural resources
- source materials from sustainable supply, when practicable
- where risks cannot be eliminated they will be minimised by substitution, use of physical controls or, as a last resort, through systems of work

Such Salinger Peters Ltd was formed in October 1998 following an increase in Civil Engineering Consulting capabilities as a result of growing partner and staff numbers. The company had previously traded as Such Salinger Partnership Ltd, commencing operations in 1984.

The Consultancy undertakes the design and administration of the full range of Civil and Environmental services, together with specialist support to the water sector in respect of Impermeable Area Surveys and Drainage Area Plan Studies.

It is the policy of Such Salinger Peters to provide these services to its Clients at the highest possible level of satisfaction. In order to achieve this, the company has developed a Quality Management System (QMS), which conforms to the requirements of ISO 9001 as well as applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.

The Consultancy is committed to a policy of continuous improvement in all areas of its operations. Such Salinger Peters is also committed to the continual improvement of the QMS and in meeting the quality requirements of the Consultancy's existing and future clients.

The Consultancy's Quality Policy sets the framework for selected objectives and targets. These objectives and targets are planned, implemented and maintained in order to improve not only the QMS but also the services supplied by the Consultancy.

The QMS reflects and supports the best management and operational practices within the company and is consistent with all its operating policies and procedures. The System's procedures etc are designed to formalise the company's working practices, rather than impose additional or contradictory requirements.

All employees are responsible for the quality of their own work and for compliance with all requirements of the QMS, together with any related Works Instructions. All staff are encouraged to report any quality related matters that may have an adverse affect on the company's QMS. This policy is communicated to all staff, whilst ensuring that they understand all the relevant aspects of it.

The management of Such Salinger Peters Limited recognises that it has a legal duty of care towards protecting the health and safety of its employees and others who may be affected by the company's activities, and that managing health and safety is a business critical function.

In order to discharge its responsibilities the management will:

- bring this Policy Statement to the attention of all employees
- carry out and regularly review risk assessments to identify proportionate and pragmatic solutions to reducing risk
- communicate and consult with our employees on matters affecting their health and safety
- comply fully with all relevant legal requirements, codes of practice and regulations at International, National and Local levels
- eliminate risks to health and safety, where possible, through selection and design of materials, buildings, facilities, equipment and processes
- encourage staff to identify and report hazards so that we can all contribute towards improving safety
- ensure that emergency procedures are in place at all locations for dealing with health and safety issues
- maintain our premises, provide and maintain safe plant and equipment
- only engage contractors who are able to demonstrate due regard to health and safety matters
- provide adequate resources to control the health and safety risks arising from our work activities
- provide adequate training and ensure that all employees are competent to do their tasks
- provide an organisational structure that defines the responsibilities for health and safety
- provide information, instruction and supervision for employees
- regularly monitor performance and revise policies and procedures to pursue a programme of continuous improvement
- where risks cannot be eliminated they will be minimised by substitution, the use of physical controls or, use of personal protective
equipment or, as a last resort, through safe systems of work.

The purpose of our recruitment policy is to ensure that we have a consistent, fair, and cost effective approach to the way that we recruit and select candidates for Such Salinger Peters. In doing so we aim to make Such Salinger Peters an employer of choice.

The aims of this policy and of the recruitment procedure are to enable selection of the best person for the job, to provide a structured approach to the recruitment process, to ensure consistency is achieved across the Company and, to comply with our own Diversity Policy and with recruitment legislation.

CASE STUDY 1

The project involved the design of a replacement structural steel deck jetty with runway beams allowing the boat crane hoist to lift boats in and out of the water.

The existing concrete runway structure was starting to fail in areas with visible signs of cracking.

Such Salinger Peters were commissioned to produce a structural design for a replacement steel framed jetty sat on steel circular piles.

CASE STUDY 2

During the winter of 2012 heavy rainfall destabilised a section of flood defence embankment along the River Brit in Bridport. Due to restricted access through privately owned land the Environment Agency opted to install a long term flood defence solution to avoid the need to return to the site every few years.

Such Salinger Peters were commissioned to produce a detailed design for a replacement flood wall. In order to replace the existing flood bank with a flood wall the topography of the bank was altered creating a much less steep bank. This would allow the Environment Agency easier access to the site to carry out maintenance.

CASE STUDY 3

This scheme was a community project for affordable housing on a brownfield site on the outskirts of Buckland Newton. http://www.lyddenmeadow.co.uk

Such Salinger Peters (SSP) worked with the contractor C.G. Fry and Son to gain consent for this farmstead style development and provided a biodiversity survey to support the planning application. SSP also detailed wildlife mitigation measures during works and recommended ecological enhancements to gain Code 4 Sustainable Homes certification for the scheme.

Such Salinger Peters were commissioned to undertake an ecological assessment to provide advice for a site in Poole.

The project required a site survey and provided a report with advice in line with guidance. A summary of details for the work follows;
