Infrastructure Design Engineer

Up to £33K+ salary negotiable dependent on experience + Benefits

Such Salinger Peters Ltd, a Civil Engineering Consultancy are seeking to recruit Infrastructure Design Engineers for each of their south coast offices with the potential of the successful candidate becoming a Director within three years of appointment. The vacancy has arisen as a result of planned growth and ideal candidates would be recently chartered or close to attaining professional membership of an appropriate institution with experience of managing small to medium size infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will need to have hands on knowledge and experience of the design process associated with drainage and roads for commercial and residential developments and Flood Risk Assessments. Working knowledge of Sewers for Adoption 7 and Section 104, 278 and 38 agreements is essential as is the ability to run projects and provide guidance to more junior staff members.

We have a varied workload and can offer autonomy, variety and the opportunity to run your own jobs, liaise directly with clients, whilst playing a strategic part in our ongoing growth plans. The ideal candidate have a CV that demonstrates good experience in roads and drainage design, and the ideal candidate should be someone who is seeking a genuine long-term career move and doesn’t want to get lost in a large organisation.

The successful candidate will need a full UK driving licence in addition to current demonstrable experience with industry standard software including AutoCAD, WinDes, HEC-RAS, FEH and other sector related design software.

You will have excellent communication skills, be ambitious with a desire to progress your career. We provide excellent ongoing training opportunities and a negotiable salary package depending on the individual's level of experience and ability, but likely to be in the region of £28,000 - £33,000 p.a.

Each of the two south coast design facilities currently has a turnover of approximately £300K, employing 4 technical staff with an office Director responsible for the day to day management. Typical projects range in value from £1K to £500K in capital value and the candidate must be able to relate to the different engineering requirements and management techniques required for this variety of projects.

Key responsibilities / duties include:

• Responsible for technical and design input on a wide variety of infrastructure projects
• Responsible for projects or aspects of projects as project manager
• Liaise with clients, other professional teams and disciplines on relevant aspects of projects
• Delegating and supervising work of more junior team members
• Mentoring junior staff, promoting CPD activities.
• Support the Office Director in managing the team’s workload

Desired Skills and Experience

The ideal candidate will be a positive and enthusiastic team player, who holds a suitable and relevant Civil Engineering degree, has 3-5 years post graduate experience and is close to attaining MICE or other relevant professional qualification.

The ideal candidates must:

• Have experience in infrastructure design; drainage; roads and streets, utilities etc.
• Have experience of working in a team environment and supervising the work of others.
• Have knowledge and experience of WINDES and AutoCAD 2D
• Have experience in attending client and consultation project meetings
• Have knowledge of construction contract and specification preparation
• Be able to act as contract supervisor using standard industry forms of contract (JCT, NEC, ICE etc).
• Have excellent communication and written skills
• Be competent with the use of Microsoft Office programs
• Have some experience in winning new work and developing client relationships.
